Tailless comet could offer more information about origin of solar system: Research
Scientists have discovered a new type of tailless comet. The comet that has returned from the edge of the solar system has been named it as Manx object, named after Manx cats, which are mostly tailless. Study’s lead researcher Karen Meech, an astronomer at the University of Hawaii, said that the newly discovered comet may help solve the mystery as to how the solar system has formed. With the help of the Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii, astronomers focused on a comet known as C/2014 S3. In 2014, ..>> view originalUC Berkeley Team Creates Complex Neural 'Atlas' Showing Where Ideas Originate in Our Brain
Scientists at UC Berkeley have mapped the brain’s inner regions where different ideas take birth. Such a complex neural atlas has been created for the first time. Humans have a wide variety of cells in this part of the brain, which provide them the ability to interpret the meaning of the words they are hearing. The research being conducted by the scientists is mainly focusing on people’s ability to link words with their meanings—the most basic level of brain work. This phenomenon could, hope sc..>> view originalCERN's Large Hadron Collider Shut Down By Weaselly Intruder

On Wednesday, Elon Musk's private company SpaceX announced on Twitter that it plans to send a spacecraft to Mars as soon as 2018. The mission will involve sending a spacecraft called the Red Dragon to Mars to retrieve samples collected by NASA's Mars rover and then return them to Earth. Here's SpaceX's announcement: SpaceX has had big plans to usher in a new era of reusable rockets that could send the first humans to Mars and return them home for a while. In 2011, SpaceX released a video showin..>> view originalResearchers discover Sleep patterns among Australian bearded dragons
Earlier, sleep patterns were known for mammals and birds only but a new study published in the journal Science has discovered them in a non-avian reptile, the Australian bearded dragon, as well. Knowing about slow-wave sleep and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep in a reptile could alter the models of how sleep patterns have evolved. Researchers said that sleep patterns may have evolved more than 300 million years ago. NASA has unveiled a new shiny gold mirror that will be sent into space. This mirror of NASA's will find the "first light" in the universe and find new planets. The mirror is a part of an initiative that will test NASA's James Webb Space Telescope after being integrated with the mirror. The primary mirror is made up of 18 smaller mirrors. It will be the biggest mirror to be sent into space. In regards to the "first light" mentioned above, what this means is that NASA's mirror will be looking for..>> view originalThe Kennewick Man to be reburied by American tribes
The ancient skeleton of the Kennewick Man is being returned to five tribes, to be buried again. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers determined Wednesday that rests are from a Native American. The decision was based on new DNA tests and skeletal analysis, in the context of a 20-year legal fight to study the bones. The corps declared that rests, are now covered by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, said the Associated Press (AP). The skeleton of the Kennewick Man dates to 8..>> view originalWarming to Bring 'Epidemic' of Heat-Related Injuries
Warming to Bring ‘Epidemic’ of Heat-Related Injuries By Arthur Nelsen, The Guardian Workers in fields and factories face an epidemic of heat-related injuries that will devastate their health, income and productivity as climate change takes hold, a major U.N. report has warned. Productivity losses alone could rise above $2 trillion by 2030, as outdoor employees in many regions slow their pace, take longer breaks and shift their work to cooler dusk and dawn hours. The effects of heat stress broug..>> view original
